Although the right standard can vary depending on your calibration parameters, a good rule of thumb is to make your standard at least four times more accurate than the flow meter/unit under test (UUT) you’re checking.

Another necessary task when performing flow meter calibration is to ensure that the UUT and calibration standard you employ is in a steady state. This is because when you calibrate them, they’ll both be compared in real-time, so keeping a steady flow-rate will prevent miscalculations.

When you perform flow meter calibration, it’s important to do so in a manner that is as close to the equipment’s real-life functions as possible. Factors as heat, density, and viscosity of the media being measured that reflect typical conditions will ensure precision.
